Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government has made preparations to accommodate around 20 thousand people for the congregational Eid al-Fitr prayer at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), North Jakarta.

"Initially, the maximum capacity was eight thousand. However, the people's enthusiasm exceeded that number," Jakarta provincial Education, Spiritual, and Mental Office's Mental and Spiritual Department Head, Aceng Zaini, stated here on Friday.

With the increase in the capacity for the congregational prayer, the committee expanded the prayer area in the stadium.

Zaini explained that for the Eid prayer, the JIS will be able to accommodate a maximum of 12 thousand men and 10 thousand women.

The plan is that preparations for Eid prayer at JIS will start at 6 a.m. local time.

He appealed to the congregation to bring personal prayer equipment and carry along environmentally friendly bags to store their sandals or shoes.

In addition, he advised people to not bring newspapers as prayer equipment since they can become waste after the prayer as well as urged the public to continue to wear masks and implement COVID-19 health protocols.

Congregants are also advised to maintain a safe distance in order to prevent likely virus transmission.

He suggested people to take public transportation or online transportation services due to the limited parking lot space. The parking lot can accommodate around 1,900 cars. Meanwhile, motorcycles will be directed to be parked at the Intermediate Treatment Facility (ITF) building located across the stadium that can accommodate around one thousand motorcycles.

The government will provide seven large TransJakarta buses, with a capacity of 60 people per bus, to carry individuals from the North Jakarta Mayor's Office to JIS and vice versa.

Thereafter, five medium-sized school buses, with a capacity of 30 people per bus, will serve as shuttle buses from the parking lot.

In addition, village and sub-district operational cars will be deployed to facilitate the community and will be coordinated by each village or sub-district government.

Moreover, Jakarta-owned tap water company PAM Jaya will deploy six water tankers to facilitate the community in performing wudu (ablution) before the prayer.
