Raha, Southeast Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Some communities in Muna District, Southeast Sulawesi Province, have continued to make a religious visit to Muna's Old Mosque every year after Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

"After Eid, the community in Muna District has made this old mosque to be a religious tourist attraction and cultural tradition every year for Muslims in this region to visit," member of the Muna Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), La Ode Dirun, said in Raha City, Southeast Sulawesi, on Tuesday.

A religious and historical tourist attraction, the Muna Old Mosque has drawn many people from Muna District during Eid al-Fitr 1443 Hijr.

The mosque, which is said to have been established in 1716 AD, is located in Tongkuno sub-district, Muna, about 25 km from Raha City, and is claimed to be the second oldest mosque in the district.

One visitor from Parigi Sub-district, Wa Salma (40), said a visit to the mosque is a must for people across generations, especially after Eid.

"Alhamdulillah, this year, almost all of our family members returned home. So, many of us came here to offer prayers," she added.

She said that not only did her family come to pray at the Muna Old Mosque, but many people from Muna also did the same.

More importantly, due to the old mosque, her children will not forget the history of the house of prayers, she added.

Another visitor, Rahmat, said that he had been waiting to visit the Muna mosque, and finally, his dream was realized this year.

"So far, I only heard people's stories who have visited and after we went here, there was indeed a sacred value for me," he added.

Rahmat said the sacred value of the historic mosque in Muna district made him willing to travel 35–40 km for a visit.
