Travelers who feel tired while driving, please come to the rest area or command post to take rest.
Medan (ANTARA) - The number of traffic accidents in North Sumatra fell drastically to 18 during the seven days of the Ketupat Toba Operation this year from 52 in the corresponding period of last year.

Despite the decline, Eid al-Fitr homecoming travelers must remain vigilant and exercise caution while driving in order to prevent traffic accidents, spokesperson for the North Sumatra Provincial Police, Senior Commissioner Hadi Wahyudi, said on Thursday.

The Traffic Directorate of the North Sumatra Provincial Police informed that 7 people were killed in road mishaps during the seven days of the Ketupat Toba Operation this year compared to 12 during the same period of last year.

The number of people sustaining serious injuries also fell to 11 from 21, while the number of people suffering light injuries dropped to 17 from 47.

During the Eid al-Fitr holidays, the North Sumatra Provincial Police set up inter-district/city security and service posts as a precautionary measure to reduce the number of traffic accidents, Wahyudi said.

"Travelers who feel tired while driving, please come to the rest area or command post to take rest,” he appealed.
