Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian E-sports Central Board (PBESI) will award Rp7 billion (US$483.1 thousand) as bonus to gold medalists at the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Vietnam, operational director of PBESI, Bambang Sunarwibowo, said.

In a statement issued on Friday, he informed that the sum includes a bonus for coaches under whose guidance the athletes win the gold medals.

In addition, the national E-sports association has also provided an allowance of Rp850 million (US$58.66 thousand) to 38 athletes.

Indonesian athletes will compete in six E-sports events at the international sporting event, including PUBG Mobile (team and solo), Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang, FIFA Online 4, Crossfire, and Garena Free Fire.

"They must be able to prepare their stamina well to bag gold medals for the Indonesian contingent,” the official remarked.

Earlier, PBESI was targeting to clinch five gold medals at the 31st SEA Games.

However, after an analysis of the progress of the athletes during the national training camp at Basecamp Military Lifestyle, Megamendung sub-district, Bogor district, West Java province, the target was increased to six medals.

The national E-sports association prepared several facilities at the national training camp to increase the achievements of its athletes.

The athletes are scheduled to leave for Vietnam on May 10, 2022, while the competition will take place at the National Convention Center in Hanoi from May 13–22.

This will be the second time that E-sports will be competed at the sporting event.

A total of 10 E-sports events will be contested at the 31st SEA Games.

In addition to the six events that Indonesian players will compete in, the SEA Games will feature League of Legends (personal computer version), League of Legends: Wild Rift (men's and women’s team mobile version), and Arena of Valor.

To be eligible for the upcoming edition of the SEA Games, players will need to be at least 18 years old.

Interestingly, the age limit was just 12 years for E-sports athletes at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines.
