We will soon issue a new presidential decree for the game industry development…
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2023 Esports President's Cup (PPE) could encourage the opening of business opportunities and help create jobs, according to Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.

The competition was officially opened on Saturday.

"This event is a barometer of the progress of esports in Indonesia. This is a part of events that drive so many potentials in opening business opportunities and jobs," Uno remarked at the Indoor Tennis Court in Senayan here on Saturday.

The minister said he hoped that the 2023 PPE implementation would lead to the creation of more local games so that it can dominate the domestic market.

He noted that there are only a few locally developed games being played, while the number of video game players in the country has reached 150 million.

Nevertheless, he said he is optimistic that Indonesia can create a locally developed game that is popular globally by cooperating with various parties.

"We will soon issue a new presidential decree for the game industry development because we want to become the master in our own country," he informed.

On the same occasion, Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, said that the PPE would become a benchmark for Indonesia Esports League.

Indonesian esports need to continue to be developed because they will have an impact not only on sports achievements, but also on the careers of young people and the local game industry, he added.

"Our young generation has shown tremendous passion, skill, and dedication in the world of esports. They have proven that esports is not just a hobby, but a serious field that produces brilliant achievements," he said.

This year's PPE was held with the theme "Esports for the Country." Its grand final will take place on October 22.
