Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), Moeldoko, has expressed optimism that Indonesia will be able to bring childhood stunting prevalence to below 14 percent by 2024, in line with the improvement in handling efforts.

"Currently, there are 600 thousand personnel of the Nusantara Family Assistance (teams) that are ready to carry out the strategy for stunting reduction. Thus, I am optimistic that President Jokowi’s (Joke Widodo’s) target of reducing stunting to below 14 percent by 2024 can be achieved," he said, according to an official statement received here on Thursday.

He made the statement while attending a gathering of the Family Assistance Team at Subang District Square, West Java, on Thursday.

According to the 2021 family data collection (PK 21), the number of families at risk of stunting in Indonesia reached 21.9 million.

To address that problem, the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) readied 600 thousand personnel in 200 thousand Family Assistance Teams to disseminate information and provide services to families in Indonesia to prevent child stunting.

According to Moeldoko, three main actors play an essential role in the handling of stunting, namely midwives, the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) cadres, and family planning (KB) cadres.

"With these three main actors, there is no problem that cannot be solved—even stunting," he stressed.

Meanwhile, one of the tasks of the KSP is to supervise and ensure that national strategic programs can run well.

Stunting is one of the issues that has become the main attention of the Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin administration.

In fact, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin is targeting a 3-percent reduction in stunting prevalence in 2022 from 24.4 percent in 2021.

In 2021, Indonesia's stunting rate fell significantly from 30.8 percent in 2018.
