Jakarta (ANTARA) - Regional government-run transportation company PT TransJakarta has entered into research and data management cooperation with an international institution to support comprehensive electric vehicle operation by 2030.

In a statement issued on Monday, PT TransJakarta’s president director, M. Yana Aditya, said that the company is carrying out several global-scale collaborative efforts to reach that target.

PT TransJakarta’s cooperation with Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) to manage data and research supports energy transition adaptation in the form of shifting to electric buses, he informed.

A cooperation agreement was signed to this effect in London, England, on Friday by Aditya and BNEF global head of client relations, Benji Kafri, and was witnessed by Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, and CEO of BNEF, John Moore.

Baswedan, who earlier held a meeting with the institution's chief editor, noted that Jakarta is targeting to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

"This was an interesting discussion on sustainable mobility or sustainable development of public transportation. We exchanged ideas on climate change mitigation steps," he said.

In addition, he also talked about the development of sidewalks for pedestrians, bike lanes, multimode public transportation integration, and several other initiatives.

TransJakarta's cooperation with BNEF, a provider of strategic research on global commodity markets and disruptive technology, is expected to help drive the transition to a low-carbon economy.

According to Aditya, the cooperation is a form of the Jakarta provincial government's commitment to participating in realizing the fossil-fuel-free road map program initiated by C40 Cities.

"To follow up on this, we are committed to conducting the transition from conventional buses to electric buses, with the target of 50 percent bus (fleet transformation) by 2025 and the entire bus (fleet) by 2030," he informed.
