Tomorrow, we will share stories with several countries about the efforts to recover the national aviation industry from the COVID-19 pandemicJakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi is scheduled to attend the Changi Aviation Summit 2022 in Singapore on May 17-18, 2022, to discuss efforts to facilitate sustainable and inclusive recovery of the aviation industry.
The event will be the first face-to-face summit in the aviation sector to be held in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Tomorrow, we will share stories with several countries about the efforts to recover the national aviation industry from the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the stories we will tell is about the Eid al-Fitr homecoming exodus this year that serves as a rising point of the Indonesian aviation industry and economy," he noted in a written statement accessed in Jakarta on Monday.
Despite the limited fleet of aircraft operating during the Eid exodus period, domestic airline companies were able to optimize the operation of planes to cater to a surge in the number of passengers, he stated.
In fact, the number of flights and passengers during the Eid exodus period hit the highest record in the wake of the pandemic and almost came closer to the pre-pandemic level, he remarked.
"This indicates that the domestic aviation industry begins to grow," he pointed out.
Sumadi is scheduled to attend the opening session of the summit on Tuesday. Sumadi, along with Malaysian Transportation Minister Wee Ka Siong, Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Pong, Narita Airport CEO Akihiro Tamura, Director General of Mobility and Transportation of the European Union Commission Henrik Hololei, and representatives of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will act as panelists of the discussion themed "Reviving Aviation Rebuilding Connection.”
During his stay in Singapore, Sumadi will also hold bilateral talks with Boeing CEO and Director General of Mobility and Transportation of the European Union Commission Henrik Hololei.
