Indonesia's recovery rate is still three percent above the world average
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling Wiku Adisasmito pointed to a downward trend in the number of daily cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia despite a continued increase in the people's mobility.

"People's mobility in Indonesia, especially in the retail and recreation sectors, has continued to show an increase from last March until now, and this increase was not followed by an increase in daily cases," the spokesperson noted at a press conference accessed online here on Wednesday.

According to Adisasmito, the situation reflected that COVID-19 transmission in the community could be tackled despite people's mobility being currently the highest during the pandemic.

Based on data on COVID-19 cases nationally, he noted that Indonesia's pandemic situation continued to show an improvement in terms of active cases and recoveries.

"The death rate is still above the world average, while the rate of active cases and recoveries is better than the world (average)," he pointed out.

Adisasmito conveyed that based on the COVID-19 Handling Task Force data, national active cases declined to 0.08 last week, lower by around four percent below the world average.

As of May 15, 2022, Indonesia's active cases stood at 4,700, declining from six thousand recorded during the previous week on May 8, 2022.

Meanwhile, in terms of recoveries, the figure also increased this week, with around 3,600 people declared recovered from the virus, with a recovery rate of 97.34 percent.

"Indonesia's recovery rate is still three percent above the world average," he pointed out.

In terms of mortality, Adisasmito remarked that the number and rate of deaths tended to remain the same as compared to 2.59 percent during the previous week.

Nevertheless, on average, the number of deaths recorded daily declined in the last three months and currently stood at 13.

The first case of COVID-19 in Indonesia was confirmed in March 2020. According to data from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of May 18, 2022, the nation recorded a total of 6,051,532 COVID-19 cases, 5,891,190 recoveries, and 156,498 deaths.
