We will continue to involve these advocates to promote the importance of women’s leadership in the business world
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The effort to reduce the gender gap in the working world will require the involvement of multiple parties, the people's participation acting deputy at the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, Indra Gunawan, has said.

These parties comprise the business world, the government, and non-governmental organizations, he explained during the G20 Empower “Road to G20 2022” webinar entitled "Reducing the Gender Gap in the Working and Business World” on Wednesday.

The G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

G20 Empower is one of the working groups under Indonesia's G20 Presidency, which is working to expedite women's leadership and empowerment in the private sector.

According to Gunawan, the gender gap can be narrowed through collective efforts such as dissemination as well as the development of supporting policies and programs.

Women's limited skills and abilities affect their recruitment, which results in a wage gap and also affects their capability to continue to improve their careers, according to him.

The G20 Empower alliance exists as a form of partnership between the government and the private sector to empower women.

It also encourages the advancement of women by focusing on bolstering women's position, namely women's leadership in the private and public sectors.

The alliance comprises women leaders from various companies and G20 governments who are collectively continuing to promote ways in which corporations can implement gender equality, Gunawan noted.

They are also promoting good practices adopted by companies as well as collaborating with governments to encourage women's leadership, he added.

There are around 60 advocates from the private sector who have signed the G20 Empower agreement concerning women's empowerment.

"We will continue to involve these advocates to promote the importance of women’s leadership in the business world," he remarked.
