Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Traffic Directorate has appealed to residents to report rogue police officers demanding a bribe for sanction relief on roads where odd-even traffic rules are in place.

"We will disseminate the Traffic Directorate's hotline number to prevent the 26 roads (where the odd-even traffic rule is enforced) from becoming places for our officers to demand bribes from rule violators," Director of the Police's Traffic Directorate Senior Commissioner Sambodo Purnomo Yogo stated here on Saturday.

Yogo remarked that residents could send a message, complete with a photo or video proof, to the traffic directorate's WhatsApp number to help the police sanction the rogue officer.

While the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) equipment has been installed at some 12 roads where the odd-even traffic rule is applied, the system is yet to be fitted on the rest of the 14 roads, he revealed.

The officer noted that the issuance of traffic tickets on the 12 roads would be performed only through the ETLE system.

"We expect that the traffic ticket issuance will only be conducted through the electronic system at locations where the ETLE system has been installed," Yogo noted.

To enhance the effectiveness of the odd-even traffic rule enforcement, the traffic directorate has proposed to the provincial authority to install the ETLE system on another 14 roads where the traffic restriction is enforced.

"We propose to the provincial authority to install the ETLE system on another 14 roads, and it is our priority to add the ETLE camera installation this year or in 2023," the traffic directorate head remarked.

Yogo stated that if the ETLE system is installed on all 26 roads, police officers deployed to monitor odd-even traffic adherence earlier could be transferred to other locations to help relieve traffic congestion.

Earlier, the Traffic Directorate and the province's Transportation Office had agreed to expand the odd-even traffic rule coverage, from 13 roads to 26 roads in Jakarta by June 6, 2022.

The traffic restriction will be enforced at 6-10 a.m. local time and at 4-9 p.m. local time every weekday. No traffic restriction will be applied every weekend and on public holidays.
