Belitung, Bangka Belitung Isla (ANTARA) - Singapore and Malaysia are potential markets for promoting golf tourism in Belitung, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said in Tanjung Pandan, Bangka Belitung Islands, on Saturday.

"I see that the opportunities for the Belitung golf tourism market to Singapore and Malaysia are very open," Uno noted while participating in the ‘Let's Go Belitung Golf 2022’ event at Black Rocks Golf Tanjung Tinggi, Belitung.

He said his ministry is targeting foreign tourists, especially from Malaysia and Singapore, with a quality and sustainable golf experience in Belitung.

As Belitung's location is close to Malaysia and Singapore, golf tourism matches the market needs, he added.

"Especially now that the Indonesian government has implemented a policy that facilitates the arrival of foreign tourists who have been fully vaccinated, (which involves eliminating) PCR tests or quarantine," he explained.

In general, golf tourism in Belitung and Indonesia is highly attractive as tourists can play golf while enjoying the beautiful natural landscapes, he pointed out.

"Like in Black Rocks Golf Belitung, where tourists can play golf with Belitung's unique granite rocks and beautiful beaches as the background," he said.

According to him, travelers with specific interests such as golf tourists have a higher length of stay and quality of spending.

Uno said that the ministry is committed to supporting the development of golf tourism in Belitung because it could have a huge positive influence on economic recovery by opening jobs.

"Hence, it is expected to have a big impact on the economic revival and job opportunities in Belitung," he added.

The minister also said that collaboration is needed for advancing golf tourism in the country.

"Let's move fast, move together, and work on all the online potentials," he remarked.
