Every five days, you will see what the results will look like. The results can be seen, so even though you are old, your posture still looks good and you look fit
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin urged the elderly population to be diligent in exercising daily and routinely conducting health screenings at the nearest health service facility to ensure their bodies stayed fit and healthy.

“Fathers and mothers must maintain (their body condition) in order to stay healthy. Our job at the Ministry of Health is to ensure you know how to live a healthy life," Sadikin stated during the 2022 National Elderly Day Webinar (HLUN) on Friday.

To ensure that the body stays fit, Budi advised all elderly to be diligent in conducting physical activity for 30 minutes for five days a week.

According to the advice he heard from the World Health Organization (WHO), the elderly can engage in light physical activity by walking around the housing complex, doing light exercises, or riding a bicycle.

"Every five days, you will see what the results will look like. The results can be seen, so even though you are old, your posture still looks good and you look fit," he remarked.

In addition to doing light physical exercise, Budi also suggested that the elderly be diligent in doing brain exercises, such as by imitating the brain exercise of patients with Alzheimer's disease that is to routinely drive a small car around a housing complex, of course, under the supervision of a family member.

The elderly must also routinely visit health facilities to prevent unwanted scenarios, such as being late in diagnosing an illness.

The ministry also created an application called Aplikasi Sehat IndonesiaKu (ASIK) that makes it easier for health workers to record and monitor further conditions for the elderly after checking their cholesterol levels, blood sugar, and so on.

On the occasion, Sadikin wished all elderly in Indonesia a happy National Elderly Day. He expressed optimism that all the elderly would be able to lead a long, healthy life and remain productive in conducting various activities in society.

"Hopefully, father and mother would lead a long life and not only can they see their children and grandchildren but also see the children of their grandchildren," Sadikin stated.
