Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - The Lampung provincial government is ready to host World Surf League (WSL) Krui Pro 2022 on Tanjung Setia Beach, Ujung Bocur, Krui, West Pesisir District, Lampung Province, from June 11 to 17 this year.

The WSL, a global organization established in 1976, postponed the Krui Pro twice owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To secure the upcoming surfing championship, Lampung Police will deploy 207 personnel, spokesperson Senior Commissioner Zahwani Pandra Arsyad informed here on Friday.

As of May 30, as many as 216 surfers from 17 countries have confirmed their participation in Krui Pro, Arsyad said, citing data from the WSL website.

Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno, State-Owned Enterprises Minister (SOE) Erick Thohir, and PAN political party chairman Zulkifli Hasan are expected to attend the inauguration of the international event in Krui, West Pesisir.

"With the support of all of us, the Lampung people, this event is expected to help revive the tourism sector in Lampung," the police spokesperson said.

Krui is one of the world's best surfing destinations, he said, and expressed optimism that the WSL will help revive the tourism industry in Lampung.

Situated 30-minutes south of Krui near the small local village Tanjung Setia, Ujung Bocur is not only home to Sumatra’s most consistent wave, but the longest one, too.

The WSL is dedicated to changing the world through the inspirational power of surfing by creating authentic events, experiences, and storytelling to inspire a growing, global community to live with purpose, originality, and stoke.

WSL has its headquarters in Santa Monica and regional offices in North America, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa).
