Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that he has been monitoring the search operation for West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil's eldest son, Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz, who went missing while swimming in Aare River, Bern, Switzerland, recently.

He further said that he has instructed officials to exert efforts to assist in the search operation.

"I monitor (the search operation) daily, and we have also instructed the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Indonesian embassy to assist (in the operation) as much as possible," Jokowi informed at the Jakarta International e-Prix Circuit, North Jakarta, on Saturday.

He said that he had directly contacted Kamil one day after Mumtadz was officially declared missing on May 26 to express his utmost concern about his disappearance.

"Until now, (Mumtadz) has not been found yet, and I have expressed my condolences to West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil and his family. I hope (he and his family) remain strong while facing this tragedy," the President remarked.

Mumtadz reportedly went missing while swimming with his sister and a friend in Aare River, Bern, Switzerland, on May 26. Following reports of his disappearance, the local authorities promptly organized a search operation, which was assisted by the Indonesian Embassy in Switzerland.

Despite the Home Affairs Ministry allowing Kamil to remain in Switzerland until June 4, the governor decided to return to his duties in West Java. Kamil's brother left for Switzerland to represent the family in the search operation.

A family representative said that Kamil and his kin have surrendered the fate of Mumtadz to God and have prepared themselves for any eventuality.

"The local authority said they have employed the search operation method specific to locate a dead body. Hence, Mr. Kamil and Mrs. Atalia (Kamil's spouse) have declared their willingness to let go of (the search for) Mumtadz and believe he has passed away due to drowning," Erwin Munurizaman, Kamil's elder brother, who is representing the family, said on Friday (June 3).
