Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Commission for Child Protection has highlighted the importance of dialogue-based parenting for supporting child development.

“The National Commission for Child Protection invites people to adopt parenting based on dialogue and participation," Head of the commission, Arist Merdeka Sirait, noted here on Monday.

Such a parenting style prioritizes dialogue and the exchange of ideas in communication and interaction between parents and children.

"In this parenting method, parents not only give advice, but also consider their children's opinion in decision-making," Sirait explained.

Dialogue-based parenting has a positive impact on children because it can help children grow and develop leadership characteristics.

"This parenting will implement family as the main media and platform within children's development process," Sirait said.

In relation to this, parents who still resort to authoritarian parenting need to change their paradigm and switch to parenting based on dialogue and participation, he added.

"With two-way parenting that involves children in opining and arguing, it is expected that it will optimize children's development," he explained.

Every June 29, Indonesians commemorate National Family Day (Harganas). The day is very apt for promoting the optimizing of parenting within families, he said.

"Harganas momentum is expected to be able to optimize the functions of a family within society, namely religious, sociocultural, affection, protection, reproduction, education, economical, and environmental guidance functions, to realize a resilient family," he added.

Adopting the correct parenting style is part of the effort to optimize the functions of a family, namely affection, protection, and education.

On a separate occasion, the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) also urged all elements of society to use the 2022 National Family Day as a chance to bolster parenting at home.

"In this era of transformation and demographic transition, we must prepare a quality generation," BKKBN head Hasto Wardoyo told ANTARA in Sijunjung, West Sumatra, on May 31, 2022.
