Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry's official pressed for every party in villages, including public figures, women, and children, to become involved in the efforts to realize Women and Children Friendly Villages (DRPPA).

During the 4th Plenary Event of W20 held in Manokwari, West Papua, on Wednesday, Lenny N. Rosalin noted that villages must provide safety and comfort to people, specifically women and children.

The W20 is one of the engagement groups within Indonesia's G20 Presidency that forms the women's empowerment network to encourage the adoption of G20's commitment in addressing women's issues.

The G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

During the Parallel Session of the Inclusive Economic Growth to Build Resilience: Rural Women and Women with Disability event, Rosalin emphasized that villages should also fulfill women's and children's rights over protection from violence and discrimination.

Moreover, they need to provide women- and children-friendly public facilities.

The involvement of women and children, in particular, within the development of DRPPA can resolve their problems in villages.

By comprehensively involving women and children in DRPPA's development, it is expected that various issues concerning women and children due to the development system that are disadvantageous to them can be exposed, she remarked.

Before the Women and Children Friendly Village initiative was unveiled, almost no women were involved in the villages' governmental structure.

However, currently, several women have become part of the villages' structure, village deliberation agencies, and village cultural institutions.

The ministry expects that through the involvement of women and children in the village government, their voice and ideas can be heard to meet their demand.
