The discussion is closely related to the compensation and restitution mechanism that will be initiated by the Law and Human Rights Ministry
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government targets the completion of Law No. 12 of 2022 on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS) this year.

"This is the effort of all ministries and agencies as representatives of the Indonesian government. It is the government's duty to ensure and address the operational needs of the Crime of Sexual Violence Law, which must be completed immediately," the deputy for women's rights protection at the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, Ratna Susianawati, noted in a press release here on Tuesday.

The regulations in the form of Government Regulations and Presidential Regulations were currently being drafted by the ministry and 13 relevant ministries and agencies.

Susianawati noted that the first government regulation will discuss about the source, designation, and utilization of funding to aid victims based on Article 35, Paragraph 4 of the Crime of Sexual Violence Law.

"The discussion is closely related to the compensation and restitution mechanism that will be initiated by the Law and Human Rights Ministry," she stated.

Moreover, the regulation on termination of access to electronic information and electronic documents, with sexual crime content, was considered relevant to the protection and recovery procedures that established the rights of victims.

"We also think that Article 80 pertaining to the implementation of sexual violence crime prevention and Article 83, paragraph 5, regarding coordination and monitoring are very likely to be regulated in one government regulation," she added.

On the other hand, the five presidential regulations stipulated in that law would be simplified into four regulations.

"The presidential regulation that (regulated the) integrated team and the implementation of integrated services at the center will be (combined) into one regulation," she stated.

As for the other three presidential regulations, it would regulate the regional technical unit for women and child protection (UPTD PPA), education and training for law enforcement personnel, and the national policy on eradicating sexual violence crime.

"We will start the phases of drafting, public testing, refining, finalizing, and program submission in June 2022. Today is the momentum to once more (pursue) the Sexual Violence Crime Law after it was ratified on May 9, 2022. This government regulation and presidential regulation are the answer to operationalization of the Sexual Violence Crime Law," she concluded.
