Speaking in Pasirlagu Village, Gibran urged local government leaders and all relevant stakeholders to actively manage the situation on the ground and provide intensive assistance to affected residents.
"I am sorry for the disaster, but rest assured that the government has deployed response teams. Let us pray that they can effectively address this emergency," he told local residents.
The vice president stressed the need to ensure victims have adequate access to food, clean water, and health services, while also taking anticipatory measures to prevent future disasters.
He highlighted the importance of paying special attention to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and persons with disabilities.
"It is equally important to care for the sick. Make sure aid is distributed accurately," he added.
On relocation plans, Gibran emphasized the need for clear public communication and said the planned housing units should be located close to evacuees' original homes or workplaces.
He also instructed the West Java provincial government and the West Bandung district administration to immediately identify the cause of the landslides, pointing to possible land conversion.
"I would like to ask the deputy governor and the district head to take action on land conversion," he said.
The West Java Regional Police reported that as of 12 p.m. local time, 16 victims had been evacuated in body bags, with nine identified through ante-mortem data. Search efforts are continuing for around 80 people reported missing.
