Jakarta (ANTARA) - There has been progress in the search for Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz, the eldest son of West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, who was declared missing and presumed to have drowned in the Aare River, Bern, Switzerland.

"There is progress, but currently the Indonesian Embassy is still waiting for confirmation and detailed information from the Bern Police," Foreign Affairs Ministry's Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Agency, Judha Nugraha, said during an online media briefing on Thursday.

Without detailing the progress searchers have made, Nugraha said the Indonesian Embassy in Bern would soon hold a special press conference to deliver the latest information about the search for Emmeril, known as Eril.

Earlier, Bern Police confirmed that the search for the governor's missing son would continue, and on June 7 those searching had completed about 30 km of the Aare River area.

"The search will be carried out indefinitely. This means that the search mission will last until Eril is found," Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland Muliaman Hadad said during an online press conference, Monday, June 6.

Hadad noted that as summer is coming in Switzerland, local police believe rising temperatures will ease the search mission.

"Summer also means that the intensity and activity of visitors along the Aare River will increase. The increase in water dynamics and human (activities) in the Aare River is expected to contribute to the search process," he said.

According to Hadad, when the weather is warm, the number of river visitors tends to increase. For instance, in the summer of 2021, the number of visitors could reach 18 thousand people per day.

The daily search method, which includes concerns for the officers' safety, is adaptable to changing weather conditions on the Aare River, he added.

Eril was declared missing while swimming in the Aare River, Bern, Switzerland, on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
