Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Social Affairs Ministry has sent hundreds of food packages and mattresses as assistance for the victims of the 5.8 magnitude earthquake which struck Mamuju District, West Sulawesi Province on Wednesday, June 8 at 2:32 p.m. Central Indonesian Standard Time.

The earthquake struck at coordinates 2.77 degrees south latitude and 118.56 degrees east longitude.

"We work quickly, thus the residents can receive the aid immediately," Social Minister Tri Rismaharini said in a statement received here on Thursday.

She announced that the Mamuju District emergency response unit (Tagana) personnel were immediately dispatched to reduce the impacts of the disaster, in collaboration with the local residents.

The personnel helped in recording the impact of the disaster, distributing logistics assistance, and evacuating the survivors, especially the vulnerable.

The assistance was sent on Wednesday from the Eastern Regional Warehouse, Makassar City, South Sulawesi Province, and the Nipotowe Central Warehouse, Palu City, Central Sulawesi Province.

The assistance sent from the Eastern Regional Warehouse included 1,000 ready-to-eat food packages, 800 children's food packages, 1,000 ready-to-eat side dish packages, 500 blankets, 100 mattresses, 100 adult clothes, 100 folding beds, 12 multi-purpose tents, 25 family tents, as well as 100 mattresses.

There were also 500 baby cloth packages, 200 adult cloth packages, 100 family kits packages, 100 kidsware packages, 100 kitchen utensil packages, as well as 500 sanitary pad packages.

Meanwhile, logistics aid from Nipotowe Central Warehouse comprised 1,000 ready-to-eat food packages, 800 children's food packages, 500 ready-to-eat side dish packages, 500 blankets, 100 mattresses, 200 adult clothes, 50 folding beds, 20 multi-purpose tents, 100 family tents, as well as 100 mattresses.

Furthermore, there are 500 baby clothes packages, 100 family kits packages, 100 kidsware packages, 100 kitchen utensil packages, 500 sanitary pad packages, two portable toilets, as well as one generator unit.

The minister has also said that her party has established a public kitchen which is able to provide 700 food packages per day.

“On Thursday morning, additional tents have been set up. Meanwhile, around 1,100 people have taken refuge in Manakarra Stadium," she added.

Furthermore, the Social Affairs Ministry has deployed a Psychosocial Support Service (LDP) team to help the victims overcome the psychological impacts due to the disaster.
