Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 1.2 billion people worldwide are increasingly vulnerable to the food, energy, and financial crises caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) stated.

However, during a media briefing here on Friday, Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs' Secretary and GCRG Sherpa Susiwijono Moegiarso noted that each region and sub-region had differing circumstances.

As a result, several countries were far more vulnerable as compared to other regions, he remarked.

He cited as an example several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, which is the region that is impacted the most.

This is reflected in the study result from the United Nations (UN), which reported that one out of two Africans is affected by the three crises.

As a whole, this region specifically experiences a financial crisis, given that several countries have a high risk of debt troubles.

The region also experiences food crisis that is exacerbated by the great drought in the Horn of Africa.

In addition to Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean are greatly affected by the three crises caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Moegiarso pointed out.

As a result, almost 20 Latin American countries encounter a living cost crisis.

Meanwhile, countries in Middle East are majorly impacted by the energy and financial crisis. In fact, extreme poverty in the region is estimated to rise to 2.8 million people this year.

"With this, the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict is almost equal in various regions," he added.

Moreover, he explained that in South Asia, some 500 million people are estimated to be impacted by the dire food and financial crises.

This situation is made worse due to the heat wave that affects the region's harvest result.

Eastern Europe and Central Asia also experience energy and financial crises, considering the importance of money delivery and energy export from the Russian Federation.
