Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's new capital city, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan is being built based on an eco-friendly concept so that future generations can have a modern, inclusive, and sustainable capital city, Chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Moeldoko has said.

The eco-friendly concept of the capital city is the answer to future global issues and related to the country's need for green, inclusive, smart, resilient, and sustainable forest cities, he explained in Jakarta on Tuesday.

"Nusantara capital city is being prepared for young people because President Joko Widodo is thinking about the fate of the nation's future generations. You, the young generation, have the right to live a better life in a comfortable city, because maybe, in the next 30 years, the situation in Jakarta will not be like this," he said.

He lauded the support from the youth for the development of Nusantara and urged the younger generation to think and provide recommendations to the government on the city’s development.

"Thank you to those of you who care about Nusantara. This is real support. We expect this can be an initiation for youth who provide support and think about the capital city," he remarked while meeting National Union of Catholic University Students Sanctus Thomas Aquinas (PMKRI) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Moeldoko promised he would continue to try to bring the government closer to the public, including to the youth, students, and university students.

The Presidential Staff Office is running a program entitled “KSP Hears,” through which the government is aiming to inform people that the President and policy-makers within the Palace can hear their aspirations.

PMKRI is a student organization that was established 75 years ago. It is committed to actively supporting efforts toward national development.

The union is set to conduct the XXXII Congress and the XXXI Member Consultative Assembly in Samarinda city, East Kalimantan, on June 21, 2022. The congress will focus on the theme of “Reinforcing the Direction of Fair National Development Post-Nusantara Capital City Determination.”

"We pursue this theme as PMKRI's commitment to pursuing the President's grand vision, which is a major and fundamental breakthrough in creating a non-Java-centric Indonesia. We are committed that through this congress, we will (offer) recommendations that lead to support for Nusantara Capital City development, whose benefits are tangible for the public," the presidium chairperson of the Union of Catholic University Students of the Republic of Indonesia, Benidiktus Papa, said.
