After holding several meetings (and) consignations, finally an agreement on the stages of the election was reached.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) officially launched the implementation stages of the 2024 General Election here on Tuesday since it was exactly 20 months before the election day.

Head of KPU Hasyim Asy'ari stated that according to the law, the implementation stages of the 2024 General Election have to be started 20 months before the election day.

As the election will be held on February 14, 2024, so the implementation stages have to be started from June 14, 2022.

The KPU head emphasized that his side could not work alone in organizing the election.

Hence, he sought support from the government, Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), political parties, community leaders, as well as all Indonesian people.

The launch ceremony was marked by turning on a siren.

It was conducted by all members of the commission, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Puan Maharani, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, Deputy Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) Nono Sampono, Head of the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) Muhammad, as well as other notable figures.

The event was also witnessed by all members of the KPU in various provinces, districts, and cities throughout Indonesia as well as the leaders of several political parties.

On the same occasion, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, who delivered a speech on behalf of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), noted that the preparation and implementation of the election stages was the result of joint work.

"After holding several meetings (and) consignations, finally, an agreement on the stages of the election was reached," he stated.

The government fully supports the implementation of the elections, he remarked.

The minister also conveyed a message from President Jokowi to the election organizer to maintain and improve the morality as well as to ensure accountability in the implementation of the election.

Meanwhile, DPR RI Speaker Maharani stated that the launch event proved that implementation of the election would not be delayed.

Maharani also emphasized that the election should be conducted in accordance with the principles of democracy.
