The collaboration with Pelindo is a strategic step in the field of drug eradication
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has signed an agreement with state-run port operator PT Pelindo on the prevention and eradication of illicit drug trafficking.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Prevention and Eradication of Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors (P4GN) was signed by BNN Head Petrus Reinhard Golose and President Director of PT Pelindo Arif Suhartono on Wednesday (June 15).

Golose noted in a statement obtained here on Thursday that the agreement is expected to narrow the space for narcotics criminals to smuggle illicit drugs by sea.

"I am sure that with Pelindo's network and resources, we can synergize in the implementation of P4GN activities," Golose remarked.

The MoU was the first agreement between BNN and Pelindo since the latter -- earlier divided into four operational units of Pelindo I, II, III, IV -- had officially merged into one unit.

The previous agreements were signed separately with Pelindo I, II, III, and IV.

Golose has applauded Pelindo's commitment to continuously building synergy in the implementation of P4GN.

This has proven Pelindo's concern in saving Indonesia's young generation from the threat of drug abuse.

"The collaboration with Pelindo is a strategic step in the field of drug eradication, given the rampant drug smuggling conducted through sea expeditions," he stated.

Meanwhile, President Director of Pelindo Arif Suhartono expressed optimism that the cooperation could also cover drug abuse prevention among the company's employees.

"We know that once an individual uses drugs, we can be sure that their performance will not be optimal. Through this collaboration, Pelindo hopes to prevent drug abuse within Pelindo," Suhartono stated.

Hence, the company can improve its services as a port operator that has a significant contribution to Indonesia's logistics sector, he added.
