The National Police organises this activity together in various worship places throughout Indonesia to enhance cooperation with religious leaders and figures
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police has provided assistance for the renovation of 11,932 worship places of various religious denominations throughout Indonesia to welcome the 76th Bhayangkara Day.

"The National Police organises this activity together in various worship places throughout Indonesia to enhance cooperation with religious leaders and figures," Chief of the Indonesian Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated at the social work launch event here on Monday.

Prabowo remarked that the assistance to renovate worship places is the police's effort to maintain religious harmony, promote tolerance among different religious denominations, and be present to attend to the basic needs of the people.

The renovation package, encompassing assistance to repair roofs and floors, repainting, and boosting internet connectivity, has been granted to 5,536 mosques, 3,110 churches, 1,302 Hindu temples, 1,108 Buddhist temples, and 876 Chinese temples, the general elaborated.

Prabowo revealed that apart from providing renovation packages, the social work, held simultaneously by all 34 regional police forces, will also distribute 178,974 social aid packages, including 100 thousand masks, to residents.

The police's social assistance will be provided to poor residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as scavengers, fishermen, motorcycle taxi drivers, MSMEs entrepreneurs, factory workers, orphanages and nursing homes, university students, police retirees, and other eligible residents, he noted.

The police chief then urged police officers and managers of worship places to maintain solidity and synergy, uphold unity, and respect religious tolerance as elucidated in tenets of the national ideology of Pancasila and the Preamble and Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution.

"Maintain our unity and respect religious tolerance. Our Constitution respects religious freedom, and it is the police's obligation to protect residents while conducting their daily worship," Prabowo remarked.

He then engaged in dialogue with some managers of worship places that expressed their gratitude for the police's efforts in ensuring their freedom of worship.

"Thank you for the attentiveness of the police and other residents, particularly the religious community that can hold each other's hands to bolster the nation's belief in God and become a better nation," a pastor from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, said while expressing his gratitude to the police chief through video conference.
