Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is currently drafting an education and training curriculum to prepare electoral supervisors ahead of the 2024 General Elections, according to an agency official.

"The curriculum is currently being finalized as it targets provincial Bawaslu and electoral supervisory teams in every sub-district nationwide," Bawaslu commissioner Herwyn J.H. Malonda informed during a coordination meeting at the South Sulawesi Bawaslu office here on Wednesday.

He expressed the hope that the curriculum would help supervisory officers minimize potential conflict in election conduct.

It is also hoped that the agency and local electoral supervisory teams would address electoral issues properly according to their duty and authority through proper training, he said.

"We hope Bawaslu will be the main driver in (conflict) prevention duties. However, the agency capable of electoral supervision is indeed Bawaslu. We expect that conflict potential can be minimized," Malonda added.

He informed that the agency is also devising a grand design for human resources development for supervision, prevention, and taking measures against electoral violations, which will be the supervisory agency's duties and functions.

"This is preliminary information, but perhaps later, outgoing and former provincial Bawaslu commissioners would be facilitators for all Bawaslu education and training activities in South Sulawesi to (conduct the) main lectures," the commissioner said.

Malonda, who is also serving as Bawaslu's coordinator for human resources and organization division, then reiterated the agency's determination to improve the agency's performance in the future.

"Human resources are the principal asset of Bawaslu to ensure a fair election. It must be started from quality human resources," he remarked.

Meanwhile, head of the South Sulawesi Electoral Supervisory Agency, La Ode Arumahi, said that he welcomed Malonda's first visit to the province after his inauguration last April.
