Jakarta (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) has said that digital banking transactions rose 20.82 percent year on year (yoy) in May 2022 to reach Rp3,766.7 trillion.

"Digital economic and financial transactions are growing rapidly in line with the increasing acceptance and preference of the public of online shopping, the expansion and convenience of digital payment systems, as well as the acceleration of digital banking," BI Governor Perry Warjiyo said during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

Therefore, BI is continuing to encourage the acceleration of digitalization of the payment system to strengthen the economic and financial ecosystem and support economic recovery.

In addition, he informed that the value of electronic money transactions (EU) in May 2022 grew 35.25 percent yoy to reach Rp32 trillion.

Meanwhile, the value of payment transactions using ATM cards, debit cards, and credit cards increased by 5.43 percent yoy to Rp630.9 trillion.

BI will continue to ensure that the implementation of the National Standard for Open API Payment (SNAP), especially for Payment Service Providers, can run smoothly to encourage payment system innovation.

Meanwhile, as one of the concrete steps to integrate the digital economy and the financial ecosystem, Warjiyo said that BI, together with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and associations, will hold the 2022 Indonesian Digital Financial Economy Festival (FEKDI) from July 11–15, 2022.

"This activity is also a side event for the G20, which showcases various digital initiatives and innovations in Indonesia," he added.

The amount of currency in circulation (UYD) in May 2022 increased by 8.97 percent (yoy) to reach Rp927.6 trillion, he informed.

BI has continued to ensure the availability of the rupiah in all regions through measures such as strengthening and expanding cooperation with relevant institutions in the distribution of rupiah to the 3T (outermost, frontier, remote) areas.
