Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has urged Indonesian santris (students of Islamic boarding schools) to use digital marketing to market their flagship products.

"We expect santris, whose products have been displayed, can be more proficient in utilizing digital marketing. Because this is part of our stages to create 1.1 million new jobs this year," he said during a working visit to the Bahrul Maghfiroh Islamic Boarding School here on Wednesday.

In the current era of industrial revolution, digitalization can be an important marketing tool, especially for products made by santris, he added.

He then expressed the hope that to market their products, Indonesian santris will utilize digital marketing platforms.

Santris are also expected to take risks in running their businesses, he said. According to Uno, experiencing failure while running a business is a common thing and is the main step towards success.

"When it does not work, try harder, be grateful, be patient. There are no successful people who do not dare to take risks. Failure is a rung to success. Innovation, no one is successful without innovation," he told the santris.

Meanwhile, a representative from the Bahrul Maghfiroh Islamic Boarding School, Muhammad Bisri, revealed that after the santris utilized digital marketing technologies, demand for their products rose in the market and they were able to earn a profit.

Among the products that the school's santris marketed using digital marketing technologies were orchid flowers, which were marketed conventionally before.

“Now, they (the flowers) are marketed by using social media; they are starting to sell well, they are already profiting. This digital marketing training is aimed at helping students to get to know it from an early age," he said.
