We hope NTB and NTT could be designated as the joint hosts for the 2028 PON GamesMataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The provinces of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have submitted a joint bid to host the XXII PON National Games expected to be held in 2028.
"To begin the process, the screening committee will conduct the document verification process," NTB Regional Secretary Lalu Gita Ariadi, who represented the province to submit the joint bid document, noted.
While NTB was represented by Ariadi and the province's National Sports Committee (KONI) Head Mori Hanafi, Deputy Governor and the province's KONI Head, Josef Nae Soi, represented NTT province in submitting administrative documents for the bid here on Tuesday.
Central KONI Deputy Chairperson I and XXII PON National Games' Host Candidates Screening Committee Head Suwarno received the joint bid documents from the two province's officials.

Ariadi revealed that the committee will examine administrative requirements submitted by the provinces, such as written proof of support from the regional authority and residents, particularly from respective provincial governors and legislature speakers.
"We hope NTB and NTT could be designated as the joint hosts for the 2028 PON Games," he noted.
Meanwhile, NTB KONI Head Hanafi remarked that after passing the verification stage, the committee members would conduct an on-site visit to the two provinces.
"The visit aims to examine various aspects of the games, such as (sporting) arena conditions, accommodations, transportation, human resources, and other aspects," the KONI head noted.
He said that if the province's joint bid is successful, the province's medal tally target would increase, a trend observed among provinces hosting PON Games in the past.

"If in the last PON Games in Papua, we are in the ninth place, then when we become the games' host, we must at least be in the top five ranking, and this is a realistic target," Hanafi remarked.
A successful PON Games bid will also benefit the two provinces, as they will receive budget assistance from the central government to develop facilities for the games, he noted.
"There are several positive aspects of the successful PON Games bid for the two provinces. Hence, we are toiling to be the games' host. Support from NTB and NTT residents is also important to achieve our goal," the KONI head remarked.
