​​​​​​​Lubukbasung, West Sumat (ANTARA) - Lake Maninjau Festival, which will be held in Agam District of West Sumatra from July 27 to 31, 2022, is expected to draw more tourists to the province, an official has said.

Various traditional arts and cultural performances, including dances and songs from the province, will enliven the festival, Subchan, secretary of the Agam Tourism and Sports Office, said here on Wednesday.

The festival will be participated by artistes from several sub-districts of Agam, such as Tanjungraya sub-district, which will present the "Jamba" carnival on July 27.

A traditional speech contest will be organized on July 28, and will be participated by representatives from 16 sub-districts. Meanwhile, a singing contest featuring traditional Minang songs will be held on July 29 and 30.

A fun bike event and cultural event of lake regions will be organized on July 31.

"Our activities will be held at Linggai Park Tourism Object, but for cultural arts performances particularly, they will be organized in the Batang River area," he informed.

Agam district is also planning to organize a regional paragliding championship from July 22–24, 2022, with Puncak Lawang serving as the flight location and Bayua as the landing location.

A cross-country activity in the Puncak Lawang area is also on the agenda.

The festival is being held to promote the volcanic lake in order to increase tourist visits to the area. It will also seek to introduce Linggai Park as a leading tourist attraction in Agam.

"In Agam, the Maninjau Lake areas include the Matur, Tanjungraya, Lubukbasung and Tanjungmutiara sub-districts," he said.
