Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto received Pakistan's highest civil award, Nishan-e-Pakistan, from President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr Presidential Palace in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Nishan-e-Pakistan is the highest honor granted by the Pakistani government to foreign leaders or prominent figures who have contributed greatly to Pakistan nationally and internationally.

According to an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday, the award was presented to President Prabowo in recognition of his significant efforts and outstanding contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Pakistan.

President Zardari, accompanied by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, presented the award before officials from both countries, the Pakistani parliament, and ambassadors from friendly nations in Islamabad.

The honor reflects the Pakistani government's appreciation of Indonesia's strategic role in the Indo-Pacific region and President Prabowo's commitment to enhancing defense cooperation, economic partnerships, and solidarity within the Muslim world.

Since its establishment on March 19, 1957, the Nishan-e-Pakistan has been awarded to numerous global leaders, including King Abdullah II bin Hussein of Jordan, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Brunei Darussalam's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

It also symbolizes the enduring historical ties between Indonesia and Pakistan since the era of President Soekarno, further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries amid evolving global geopolitical dynamics.

The award underscores the hope that cooperation between Indonesia and Pakistan will continue to expand in the fields of defense, economics, technology, food security, and Muslim world solidarity.

This is President Prabowo's first visit to Pakistan. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation that included Foreign Minister Sugiono, Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto, Education Minister Brian Yuliarto, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Air Force Chief Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, Ambassador Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo, Defense Logistics Chief Air Marshal Yusuf Jauhari, and Army Special Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Djon Afriandi.
