Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian G20 presidency offered an opportunity to facilitate discussions on digital-based global transformation, according to Communication and Information Technology Minister Johnny G. Plate.

This was possible since several stakeholders from 20 countries, either from public or private sectors, could discuss about that vital issue in a formal and free manner.

"The Indonesian Government has the honor to hold the G20 presidency as a means to (enable) dialogue between public and private stakeholders regarding important issues, including the digital-based transformation process that we are experiencing right now," Plate said as quoted from a press release on Friday.

In the midst of recovery of several sectors from the COVID-19 pandemic, one interesting aspect to discuss was innovation in digital technology, which could be made available for developing countries apart from developed nations.

In this condition, global market digitalization would lead to a significant growth in a matter of years, he stated.

The ministry also spoke of a possibility of digital-based business expansion soon, with digital innovation being available.

"It is estimated that 70 percent of the new economic value would be based on the digital-based business model in 2030. Some of them were projected to be in driverless car applications, digital identity portability expedition through web 5.0, and many more," the minister elaborated.

Thorough access to digital transformation was an issue for which a solution had to be discussed in the G20.

According to available data, only 20 percent of the population in developing countries or countries with low income were able to access digital services, and that too, had been compromised by gender disparity.

Thus, through Indonesia's G20 presidency, it was expected that similar issues could be resolved by stakeholders on a global scope.

Through forums involving several countries, there was a higher possibility of finding a clear solution to the problem in an easier process.

"We are (in a position where at times) we bet on promises of digitalization for the ones left behind. Thus, improving collaborative efforts to promote public welfare had to be (made)," he concluded.
