Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) will soon own and inaugurate four science and technology areas on National Technology Awakening Day (Hakteknas) in August 2022 to strengthen the research and innovation ecosystem in Indonesia.

"On the (occasion of) National Technology Awakening Day, BRIN will inaugurate four science and technology areas under BRIN's management," Head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko stated at the soft launch of the 2022 Indonesia Research and Innovation Expo in Jakarta, Wednesday.

Handoko noted that the four science and technology areas were BJ Habibie's Science and Technology Area (KST), Soekarno's KST, Siwabessy's KST, and Samaun Samadikun's KST.

KST BJ Habibie is a science and technology area that is known as the Center for Science and Technology Research (Puspiptek) in Serpong, South Tangerang City, Banten.

KST Soekarno is an area known as the Cibinong Science Center in Bogor District, West Java.

BRIN will operate KST Siwabessy as a science and technology area for industrial and medical nuclear applications in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, KST Samaun Samadikun is a science and technology area that focuses on information and communication technology in Bandung, West Java.

"These areas of science and technology are expected to accelerate research activities to produce various inventions and innovations and at the same time become a living laboratory for technology users," Handoko remarked.

Thus, in these areas of science and technology, BRIN will facilitate various parties, especially business actors and industrial partners, to be able to streamline various inventions and innovations from researchers in easier ways.

August 10, 1995, was a historic day when Indonesian people witnessed the inaugural flight of the N-250 aircraft, which was the work of the best Indonesian engineers.

Since then, August 10 has been commemorated as National Technology Awakening Day (Hakteknas) as stipulated in Presidential Decree Number 71 of 1995.
