Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB) in Bogor, West Java province, has introduced a Science Techno Park, an innovation development area that will serve the fields of agriculture, foods and bioscience.

The IPB Science Techno Park is an area for developing and commercializing innovative products and services related to tropical agriculture, foods and biosciences, supported by advanced facilities and infrastructure, the Director of IPB Science Techno Park, Meika Syahbana Rusli, said in a statement received by ANTARA here on Monday.

"We are expecting that the IPB Science Techno Park will emerge as the most productive and leading science techno park in tropical agriculture, foods and bioscience in Southeast Asia," he added.

The park has facilities such as laboratory tests, pilot plants and research for commercial product development.

The techno-park also serves as a start-up business incubator for technology and science, mediates between innovators and industries as well as develops human resources and provides solutions in the fields of tropical agriculture, foods and bioscience.

"IPB Science Techno Park accommodates creativity and innovation, involving academics and the business sector," Meika added.

He underlined that the park will result in economic benefits in the form of value-added products and job opportunities. It will also bring social and environmental advantages as it has edutainment facilities and green areas.

"The IPB Science Techno Park is a place for further research for applied innovations," Meika stated.

Some excellent products of IPB Science Techno Park are IPB 3S rice seeds that have a yield of 11 tons/hectare, rice analog for diabetics, Katulac (a feed supplement for dairy cows), Fastrex transporter used in plantation and forestry, corn noodles, Sormeal (a healthy cereal made of sorghum) and Rapid Test for Avian Influenza (a test kit to detect avian flu quickly).

The IPB Science Techno Park is built on an area of 3.46 hectares, and it will be developed by 2019.

In order to introduce its innovations, IPB Science Techno Park will hold an Open House and Innovation Expo in Bogor, West Java on September 27-28, 2016.(*)
