"I have confirmed to the National Development and Planning Minister. He was shocked because he had never given any statement about cancelation, and instead supported the Belitung G20 DWG," Deputy of Development Funding at the agency Scenaider Siahaan said after an online meeting on the G20 DWG preparation, in Pangkalpinang on Friday.
The ministry or agency will ensure that the Belitung G20 DWG is conducted as planned, following the release of information about the cancelation of the event involving development ministers, he affirmed.
"Later, he (the minister) will give a clarification regarding the information about the cancelation of the G20 (event) in Belitung," he added.
During the meeting, Hayu Sihwati from the State Secretariat Ministry said that the letter had only been sent to the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry with regard to funding infrastructure development for supporting the international-scale event.
“Thus, it is not our intention to cancel Belitung G20 DWG. We only make sure that the presidential regulation need not established just for Public Works and Public Housing Ministry's substances," she said.
"Support from the central (government and) also from many institutions, such as the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs and Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment, who, in the meeting, stated their support of the Belitung G20 DWG to run as planned," she said.
Edi Prio Pambudi from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs said that in the previous G7 meeting, Belitung had been announced as the host of the ministerial level meeting.
Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung Islands, Ridwan Djamaluddin, responded positively to the support and attention from many people, who are looking forward to the Belitung G20 DWG.
"I take it that there is no one canceling Belitung G20 DWG. For the fellows, keep your spirits up to conduct the event successfully," he remarked.
The State Secretariat Ministry issued a letter on July 4, 2022, stating: "According to the results of coordination between Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, State Secretariat Ministry, and Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, and (in consideration of the) state budget, the G20 Development Ministers' Meeting at DWG in Bangka Belitung province was canceled.”
