The Timor-Leste President is among several figures that have endorsed us and the NU to receive the Nobel Peace PrizeJakarta (ANTARA) - Head of Islamic organization Muhammadiyah's central executive board Haedar Nashir here on Wednesday affirmed the organization's support for Timor-Leste's bid for membership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
"We, Muhammadiyah, support Timor-Leste to become an ASEAN member," Nashir said after receiving a visit from the President of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, at the Muhammadiyah Da'wah Centre building .
The presidential entourage arrived at the building at 10 a.m. local time (UTC +7) and was welcomed by Nashir and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Muhadjir Effendy.

Nashir expressed gratitude for Ramos-Horta's endorsement of Muhammadiyah, alongside Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), for the Nobel Peace Prize.
"The Timor-Leste President is among several figures that have endorsed us and the NU to receive the Nobel Peace Prize," he noted.
During the meeting, Ramos-Horta and Nashir discussed cooperation in several sectors, such as education, healthcare, and humanitarian missions, in which Muhammadiyah is active.
"We also shared our views with President Ramos-Horta that also pays attention to global peace and humanitarian issues," Nashir said.

"What we discussed earlier are those aspects, our shared concern with President Ramos-Horta about how multicultural, pluralistic, and moderate humanity values can live in the global community," he added.
He then expressed the hope that the Muhammadiyah would cooperate further with the Timorese government in various sectors, including opening a branch office or establishing a Muhammadiyah school through a partnership with local entities in Timor Leste.
Ramos-Horta's visit to Muhammadiyah was part of his eight-day state visit to Indonesia—his first after his inauguration as President of Timor-Leste last May.
On Monday (July 19, 2022), Ramos-Horta met President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at Bogor Palace, West Java, for a bilateral meeting and observed the signing of memorandums of understanding. Prior to that, he visited the Kalibata Heroes’ Cemetery, South Jakarta, and laid a wreath to honor fallen soldiers.
