Amid the (current) global uncertainty, Indonesia remains trusted as one of the investment destination countries.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s investment realization in the second quarter of 2022 reached Rp302.2 trillion (US$20 billion), or up 35.5 percent from Rp223 trillion (US$14.8 billion) in the year-ago period, the Investment Ministry informed.

The figure reflected an increase of 7 percent compared to the investment realization in the previous quarter (Q1) of Rp282.4 trillion (US$18.7 billion), which absorbed a total of 320,534 workers.

This might be the first time in Indonesia’s history when investment realization has risen this high, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said at a press conference on investment realization in the second quarter here on Wednesday.

The investment realization in the second quarter comprised domestic investment (PMDN) of Rp139 trillion (US$9.2 billion), which grew 30.8 percent year on year (yoy), and foreign investment (PMA) of Rp163.2 trillion (US$10.8 billion), which increased 39.7 percent yoy.

PMA reached 54 percent of the total investment realization in the second quarter of 2022, while PMDN was 46 percent of the total figure.

The investment flowed to a number of provinces, such as West Java, Jakarta, Central Sulawesi, East Java, and Riau and covered the basic metal, metal goods, non-machinery, and equipment; mining; housing, industrial, and office complex; transportation, warehouse, and telecommunications; as well as food industries.

"Amid the (current) global uncertainty, Indonesia remains trusted as one of the investment destination countries," the minister remarked.

He said that several factors support Indonesia as an investment destination, such as investor confidence in President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) leadership, domestic political stability, better legal processes, as well as transparency in the acceleration of services.

"It shows our success in implementing the Job Creation Act," he added.

Overall, the investment realization in the first half of 2022 reached Rp584.6 trillion (US$38.8 billion).

The figure was 48.7 percent of the total investment realization target of Rp1,200 trillion (US$79.64 billion) set by President Widodo for 2022.

In the period from January to June, the realization of PMA and PMDN reached Rp310.4 trillion (US$20.6 billion) and Rp274.2 trillion (US$18.2 billion), respectively.

Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and the United States were the top five investors in Indonesia during the period.
