Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has urged regional leaders to conceive and enact policies that are favorable to the development of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"I told regional leaders and district heads that this exhibition is good; continue by developing MSMEs and start from conceiving regulations favorable to MSMEs and (ensure) easy permit application," Karnavian stated here on Wednesday.

The minister delivered the remarks while opening the 2022 Regional Autonomy Expo organized by the Association of Indonesian District Administrations (APKASI). The main theme of the expo was "Reinvigorate Regional Economy through Global Networking."

As MSMEs are the backbone of the national economy, the authorities need to conceive policies that support their existence and ensure their continuity, Karnavian said.

While highlighting the diversity of Indonesia's natural resources that can be processed into domestic-made products, Karnavian expressed the hope that domestic producers would dominate the national market through the formulation of favorable policies for MSMEs.

"Introduce them to the capital, banking, and financial sectors to help them obtain low-interest capital, and (assist them through an) easy application process and criteria," the minister said.

The ministry is committed to encouraging MSMEs to sell their products through marketplaces, such as the e-Catalogue system developed by the Government Goods and Services Procurement Policy Agency (LKPP), to enhance domestic-made commodity and services transactions, he added.

The ministry is encouraging regional leaders to provide education and training to MSME actors to help them improve their creativity and develop their products, the minister said.

Regional leaders must also develop new infrastructures to bolster market access for local MSMEs, he added.

"The Home Affairs Ministry will fully support (MSME development) through any measure possible, including through the regulation aspect," Karnavian remarked.
