Do not wait for our work and brand that we create to become famous first and then register themJakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly urged all entrepreneurs to record their intellectual property with the Intellectual Property Directorate General (DJKI), as it brings economic benefits.
"Do not wait for our work and brand that we create to become famous first and then register them," the minister said in a written statement on Thursday.
"Protecting intellectual property should be done from the start," he affirmed.
In addition to economic benefits, intellectual property recording can become one of the evidences in the event of accusation of violation from irresponsible parties, he remarked.
He also called on the people to take a cue from the several brand dispute cases that recently occurred.

At any given point in time, nobody ever knows whether there are people having the same brand name idea. Moreover, there are parties seeking to gain profits by piggybacking a brand.
He cited as an example the beauty product dispute case between MS Glow and PS Glow as an example.
In the context of this problem, the people should first understand the importance of registering their brand while developing their business.

"(It is) because, once trouble occurs, the incurred costs will be far higher as compared to the costs to register the brand itself with the Ministry's DJKI," Laoly noted.
To facilitate people in receiving legal protection in intellectual property, the DJKI has developed a digital service system.
The system is designed to digitally record copyright as well as register brands, patents, and industry designs that can be accessed at any time and from anywhere.
Moreover, the government provides special tariff for micro and small enterprises (MSEs), such as non-software copyright recording tariff that only cost Rp200 thousand and Rp300 thousand for software copyright.
