Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - The Law and Human Rights Ministry has encouraged Lampung to register the intellectual property rights of its products in order to ensure their protection.

"Lampung has much potential, and with regard to intellectual properties, geographical indications, and collective intellectual properties, it is very important to protect them," expert staff of Bureaucracy Information at the Law and Human Rights Ministry, Iwan Kurniawan, noted in Bandarlampung on Tuesday.

Kurniawan stated that his administration had extensively informed the people of the registration of intellectual property rights as a means to protect regional products with potential.

"That immense potential, in order to be claimed by Lampung, must be registered (as part of) intellectual property rights. May the registration offer a legal (basis) as a form of protection for regional products," he remarked.

He expects that this effort of disseminating information will facilitate micro, small, and medium enterprises and farmers in filing their brand.

"This is a form of protection for the products, so it is hoped that not only those with (vast sums of money) can register their products, but MSMEs and farmers too can immediately register," he stated.

He explained that the products to be registered must have economic and utilization values.

"(Products) which are planned to be registered (as) intellectual property rights from Lampung were shorea javanica and Saburai mangosteen, all of which must have utilization and economic values. Thus, we always encourage by informing the public and facilitate the products, and intellectual property rights that could be registered in order to protect local products," he added.

Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly stated that intellectual property could become a source of additional income for creative economy players.

"Thus, intellectual property will benefit, economy-wise," Minister Laoly noted in a written statement received here on Tuesday.
