Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) signed a cooperation agreement with the Korea Internet Security Agency (KISA) of South Korea as part of efforts to improve Indonesia's cyberspace security.

"There will be several programs that will become the output of this collaboration. The most important thing is to build qualified human resources in the field of cyberspace security," BSSN head Hinsa Siburian said after signing the agreement with KISA at the Cryptographic Museum here on Thursday.

The State Cyber and Encryption Polytechnic in Bogor, West Java, is being built to develop superior human resources in the field of cyberspace security.

"From there, Indonesia can learn a lot to maintain cyberspace security because currently, there are many threats and challenges that must be faced due to the advancement of digitalization," Siburian said.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also prompted an increase in digitalization in Indonesia, he noted. Thus, the challenges are even greater, he added.

South Korea was chosen for the cooperation because, based on the cyberspace security ranking, the country is placed No.1 in Asia and No.4 in the world.

BSSN spokesperson Ariandi Putra expressed his optimism that the cooperation would offer great benefits.

"Of course, this cooperation will be very beneficial because Indonesia can get technological acceleration to protect cyberspace," Putra said.

Through the collaboration with KISA, it would be possible to transfer knowledge and update cyberspace security knowledge, he added.

Indonesia should not be left behind amid the fast development of technology, he said.

The spokesperson underlined the need for cyberspace security to support the growth of the digital economy in Indonesia, which is growing rapidly with the emergence of unicorns and decacorns.

"Of course, data security must be maintained so that the development of the digital economy can increase more rapidly and safely," he remarked.
