It's important to empower the younger generation so that people can effectively use their energy, passion, and creativity.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is continuing to work toward strengthening the youth's contribution to the energy sector to deal with the climate crisis and accelerate the energy transition.

Tackling climate change and preparing for the future of energy management requires the involvement of young people, expert staff to the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister and chair of the G20 Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG), Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi, said at a webinar on “Youth Actions in Mitigating Climate Change,” accessed from here on Friday.

"We have felt the impacts of climate change. The handling cannot be delayed. In addition to raising awareness in the community, it is time for young people to do real actions to find solutions together," he added.

The webinar was initiated by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and USAID-Sustainable Energy for Indonesia's Advancing Resilience (USAID-SINAR) as part of the Indonesian G20 Presidency’s agenda.

Hence, the government is collaborating with various parties to encourage young people to get directly involved in mitigating the climate crisis and accelerating the clean energy transition, Priaadi informed.

The issues of climate change and energy transition are big concerns for the millennials and Generation Z, he noted.

He pointed to the rise of communities and startups in the field of new renewable energy and said: "This is a good signal in increasing the role of youth in realizing Indonesia's energy transition.”

According to him, the responsibility for realizing the energy transition is becoming more important as Indonesia is hosting the G20 Presidency in 2022.

"The energy transition is one of the three main pillars of realizing the target of the international forum (G20), namely Recover Together, Recover Stronger," he explained.

Meanwhile, USAID Indonesia Urban Environment Officer Ryan Weddle said USAID is committed to supporting Indonesia's renewable energy goals and its nationally determined contributions (NDC).

"It's important to empower the younger generation so that people can effectively use their energy, passion, and creativity," Weddle said.
