According to the task force’s data, FMD has so far affected 264 districts and cities in 22 Indonesian provinces. Currently, East Java is still the province with the highest number of sick animals, dead animals, and recovered animals.

Earlier, the coordinator of the expert team of the FMD Handling Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito, had appealed to regions with green zone status for FMD or those with no FMD cases to remain alert by implementing the health protocols and monitoring the mobility of livestock.

Adisasmito said that the government is stepping up testing of farm animals for FMD to stem the spread of the disease.

He informed that the testing of FMD-susceptible animals is being conducted using the RT-PCR method or a non-structural protein (NSP) ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test.

The government has continued its efforts to curb FMD transmission through biosecurity, testing, vaccination, treatment, and conditional slaughter, and is expecting the public to remain alert and concerned about the FMD outbreak and jointly prevent the spread of the disease.
