Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry is implementing the 2022 Indonesia Food Innovation (IFI) Program in a bid to develop new entrepreneurs in the food sector.

"The government, through the Ministry of Industry, encourages business actors to continue to innovate to create innovative products, so that they can continue to survive and also develop their businesses in the current situation that is full of new things," the ministry's Director General of Small, Medium, and Multifarious Industries (IKMA), Reni Yanita, stated at the kick-off event of the 2022 IFI followed here on Monday.

Yanita noted that the dynamics of the current situation presented a challenge as well as an opportunity for business actors to meet the market needs.

The third edition of IFI held in 2022 is expected to facilitate small and medium industry (SMI) players in the food and beverage industry to obtain proper guidance and assistance from business and technical experts.

Thus, SMIs can accelerate their business to become modern SMIs whose products are marketable, profitable, and sustainable, thereby resulting in the expansion of their businesses.

This year, the IFI is themed "Promoting Sustainable Supply Chain and Added Value through Innovation to Serve the Dynamic Markets," and is expected to provide answers to respond to various challenges.

The dynamic nature of markets has caused changes in the behavior of both producers and consumers, Yanita pointed out.

"Hence, as industry players, we must always be able to innovate and adjust with the markets," she stated.

In 2021, at least 1,638 applicants participated in the selection process of the IFI program, and 20 participants have been selected to receive guidance in the food business scale-up program through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating on three aspects: management, legal, and networking.

The kick-off event was held to mark the start of the 2022 IFI program, and the information is expected to reach food SMEs and communities across Indonesia.

Yanita invited food industries across the country to participate in the 2022 IFI Program.

"We also encourage all parties, including heads of departments that are in charge of industry, heads of business incubators, and heads of associations, to jointly grow and develop new entrepreneurs in the food sector," she stated.
