Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will coordinate with the Singapore Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) to ascertain the whereabouts of Surya Darmadi, who was suspected of being in Singapore.

"We have (forged) coordination with CPIB, Singapore's (counterpart of the) Corruption Eradication Commission. We will check with them and ask where the person in question is," Deputy Chairman of the KPK Alexander Marwata delivered the statement after an anti-corruption technical guidance event at Plaza Pupuk Kaltim here on Tuesday.

Darmadi was included on the "wanted" list since 2019 by the KPK. He was a suspect in a case in which he allegedly helped to give or promised something to state officials with regard to the submission of revisions to forest conversion in Riau Province to the Forestry Ministry in 2014.

Darmadi was also named a suspect by the Attorney General's Office in the alleged corruption case involving 37,095 hectares of palm oil land. The case also saw the former head of Indragiri Hulu District, Raja Thamsir Rahman, being involved and named as a suspect.

Marwata noted that the KPK will also consider the extradition measure for Darmadi.

"Regarding the extradition, we will definitely pursue it later. For example, the person in question is right there (in Singapore), and we have an extradition agreement, right. We will coordinate with CPIB with the local law enforcement officials," he stated.

Acting Spokesman for the KPK Ali Fikri stated that the commission was still on the lookout for Darmadi. The KPK had, so far, not taken up the option to put Darmadi through an absentia trial, or in court without the defendant being present.

"So far, indeed, we have not taken up the 'in absentia' option, for example. (This is) because we want that later, when the defendant is under trial, then that is the point on the basis of which we can pursue the case further as long as there are legal evidences about the involvement of other parties and others," he remarked.
