The protection of human rights is equally important as the promotion of human rights, Marsudi noted in her ministry's statement on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the minister underlined the criticality of strengthening AICHR's work through boosting engagement that involves more stakeholders, including the public and civilian organizations.
Moreover, Marsudi laid emphasis on regular interactions with international and national human rights institutions.
She proposed the existence of a platform for dialogue related to human rights every year.
This dialogue is held to observe the human rights situation, exchange experiences on the implementation of human rights, and assist the AICHR cooperation in fulfilling its mandate.
The minister also noted that this regular interaction is important, given that Cambodia and Indonesia will become the host for the Human Rights Dialogue in November this year.
Moreover, Marsudi highlighted the importance of the human trafficking issue to become a consideration within AICHR's work scope.
Currently, Indonesia is communicating with the Cambodian authority to handle the issue of human trafficking that had become more prevalent, she stated.
Similar cooperation will be more beneficial and also intensified with the context of the ASEAN, she remarked.
During the meeting, developments in Myanmar concerning execution of four political prisoners was also highlighted. This was deemed to reflect the Myanmar Military Junta's non-existent commitment in implementing the five-point consensus.
As quoted from its website, the AICHR is designed to be an integral part of the ASEAN organisational structure and an overarching institution, with overall responsibility for the promotion and protection of human rights in the ASEAN.
