Karawang, West Java (ANTARA) - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil invited everyone to participate in making the National Children Immunization Month (BIAN) in the province a success to prevent stunting and diseases that are potentially contagious to children.

Immunizations that should be conducted are those against measles and rubella, polio, and DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Tetanus) and Catch-up Immunization, he stated at the Java-Bali Stage II BIAN kick-off event.

A total of 3.4 million children in West Java are targeted to participate in the measles-rubella immunization while 4.09 million children are targeted for the Catch-up Immunization, he noted here on Wednesday.

Children from the age of nine months to 58 months should be immunized by August, he noted.

"We pray that the immunization goes well, so that (members of) this new generation can all become beneficial and great," he remarked.

Immunization service locations had been opened in hospitals, public health center (puskesmas), clinics, kindergartens, early childhood education centers, as well as integrated health posts (posyandus).

Kamil underlined the importance of immunization, so that these children can become a competitive and healthy generation in future.

Moreover, some 70 percent of Indonesia's population will comprise youngsters in the future, he added.

"In future, 25 years from now, Indonesia will become a superpower country. In 1945, Indonesia became independent. In 2045, it becomes a superpower country," he remarked.

"One of the conditions is that human resources that come from our grandchildren should be a productive, competitive, and healthy generation," he affirmed.

West Java's residents enthusiastically welcomed the measles and rubella immunization, specifically those of Karawang, which became the location for the unveiling of 2022 BIAN.

One such resident, Endang Lestari, 38, who has a five-year-old child, said that this immunization is necessary for children to protect their health and boost immunity against measles and rubella.
