Surakarta, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics on Thursday unveiled a special postage stamp on ASEAN Para Games (APG) to commemorate the multi-sport competition.

At least 30 thousand pieces of the commemorative stamp have been printed before its official launch on Friday (August 5, 2022), the ministry's Acting Director General of Post and Informatics, Gunawan Hutagalung, informed here on Thursday.

Besides the commemorative stamp, the ministry also unveiled the Surakarta Keraton (Palace) Guards series stamp, which highlights the city's local culture, he said.

At least 450 thousand pieces of the Surakarta Keraton Guards series stamp have been printed by the state-owned banknote printing company Peruri, he added.

In case of high demand for the newly launched stamps, which are being sold for Rp5 thousand (US$0.33) a piece, the authority will consider printing more stamps, he said.

"Besides for collection, this is our goodwill to appreciate the local culture. As Surakarta is the host of APG, we made the APG commemorative stamp. Besides, this is also our opportunity to promote the Surakarta Palace," Hutagalung added.

He confirmed that the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G. Plate, and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo will be present at the official launch ceremony for the stamp, and the Surakarta Mayor is expected to sign the stamp during the ceremony.

"Tomorrow, there will be also a cultural attraction involving the Keraton and the APG team. In principle, the ministry is committed to continuing to support tourism, culture, and the APG event," he added.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Surakarta Cultural and Tourism Office Rini Kusumandari said that the Surakarta Palace Band, the national flag and APG flag bearer groups, chariots, and performing artistes will take part in the stamp launching parade.

Giant APG commemorative stamps and Surakarta Keraton Guard series stamps will also be exhibited during the parade, she added.
