Solo, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian contingent managed to earn one gold medal in boccia at the multi-sport competition for disabled athletes—the ASEAN Para Games XI—held at Sebelas Maret University here.

The gold medal was won by Wening Prabawati in the women's BC4 class, Indonesian boccia head coach Muhammad Bram Riyadi informed here on Wednesday.

During the last match, she managed to defeat Thailand's Chalise Khiawjantra by 4–3, which put her in first place within the point ranking.

The second and third places were taken by athletes from Thailand and Singapore, respectively.

In addition, the Indonesian contingent won two silver medals: Gischa Zayana won her medal in the women's BC2 class and Handayani clinched her medal in the women's BC1 class.

Suci Kirana Dewi earned one bronze for the Indonesian boccia contingent in the women's BC3 class, Riyadi informed.

During the last match, she managed to defeat Thailand’s Jutharat Rattana with a score of 6–3.

However, Faris Sugiarto, who participated in the men's BC4 class, lost out on the silver medal by 0–7 to Thailand’s Pornshok Larpyen.

Indonesia still has an opportunity to get more medals until this Wednesday. In the men's BC1 class, Muhammad Afrizal Syafa still has a chance to win at least a bronze medal or place third.

In addition, Indonesian BC4 athletes Sugiarto and Fendy Kurnia Pamungkas are expected to bag the bronze medal in their last match.

Indonesia also still has a golden opportunity to win at the BC1 and BC2 three-on-three team event, when it will go up against Thailand.

Overall, there has been an improvement in the performance of the Indonesian boccia in its fourth year at APG compared to the previous years, Riyadi noted.

The country has also successfully reached its target of bagging one gold medal.
